About Kuala Kubu Bharu

Historically, the town was widely known for its active tin-mining since the 1870s. Some labelled Kuala Kubu Bharu as ‘the town that refused to die’ after famously surviving a massive flood that hit in 1883. Originally known as Kuala Kubu, the town was rebuilt after surviving said flood and renamed as Kuala Kubu Bharu in 1883, with the addition of ‘Bharu’, which translates to ‘new’ into its name.

Kuala Kubu Bharu was designed in 1925 by the first British Federated Malay States and is known as Asia’s first garden township, also notable for being an important water catchment area in Selangor.

1. Sungai Chilling Waterfall

Nestled deep within the forest grounds of northeast Selangor, Sungai Chilling Waterfall offers nothing short of a stunning view. From its crystal clear waters to a magnificent boulder shaped like a Chinese guardian lion, this three-tiered waterfall, which stretches over three storeys high and creates a shroud of mist as the water comes gushing down is definitely a sight to behold.

For those who do not wish to get wet but still want to take in the experience and bask in the views of Sungai Chilling Waterfall, there is an option to take the suspension bridge that goes all the way across the river.

Not only can visitors swim in the river, but are also encouraged to walk along the riverbank and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the waterfalls. Bring along a picnic basket filled with your favourite snacks and set up a picnic date by the waterfall for a memorable day out.

2. Bukit Kutu


This 1,050-metre high hill is located along the trunk road close to Kuala Kubu Bharu. Once known as Treacher’s Hill, Bukit Kutu is exceptionally popular among locals and tourists alike. As you hike to the top of the hill, you will be greeted by the stunning views of the Titiwangsa mountain range as well as the Kuala Kubu Bharu Dam.
There is, however, a small fee of RM5 to hike up Bukit Kutu (prices are subject to change. Visit the official website for price confirmation). To get a permit to hike, simply download and print out and fill in the application form.

Download the permit application form here. After finishing the necessary paperwork, the permit must be handed over to the forestry department in Rawang, also referred to as the Jabatan Perhutananan Negeri Selangor.

The average time it takes to scale Bukit Kutu is approximately 2 to 4 hours, depending on the individual's fitness levels. Starting at the Orang Asli Village at the foothill, visitors will also have the rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of some of the more modern-looking Aboriginal homes along the graceful Sungai Pertak River and more.


3. Kuala Kubu Bharu Paragliding Park

This is dedicated to all the adrenaline junkies out there. Kuala Kubu Bharu offers a thrilling paragliding experience where you get to take flight and soak in all of the wonders surrounding the town from a bird’s eye view. 4. White Water Rafting

Alternatively, sign up for an exciting adventure of white water rafting along the Hulu Selangor River. Beginning near the famous Selangor Dam, this experience features steepness levels between 4-6 coupled with a sense of excitement through an exciting drift during the ride.
